Zerda and BINE are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Autumn in Red
Fall foliage in striking hues of red and orange will be seen all around on this tour along the riverbank. Your pet can collect pine cones, sample wild berries and currants, view beautiful plants in purple and red, and perhaps spot some exotic birdlife! Everypet will enjoy lingering on the bridge to view the peaceful scene as the sun goes down turning the river pink as it does so ...

Before we begin the journey we need to check-in here to pick up a trail map and some travel snacks. Be sure to sign the register with how many are in your travel party and how long you plan to be on the trail. Don't forget to take a potty break before you head out!

Episode 2/25

@ Sleepy River Sunrise
Zerda and Mr. Panda agreed that the variety of scenery on their Autumn Experience trip was the best ever! They exchanged opinions on which their favourite scene had been so far, and which was the most delicious harvest food they had eaten in their travels!

The sun is just beginning to illuminate the sky, casting a warm glow on the sleepy river and the sleepy pets in the village. We begin our journey early in the cool of the day as the PnF weatherpet has predicted an unusually warm autumn day ahead.

@ Sunrise Silhouette
Zerda normally avoided tourist hotspots but she was glad she had come, especially since meeting her friend Fino here!

As the sun continues to rise and the chill of the morning gives way, some of the hikers begin to shed their warm jackets and stuff them in their packs. A lone plant is dramatically silhouetted in the sun's golden light.

@ Autumn Stillness
While Zerda stood drinking in the amazing view, Sweetie pie searched in her backpack for her camera, eager to capture the scene!

As we behold the beauty of the golden leaves in the nearby trees, some clouds have rolled in, obscuring the sun for a bit. Some small fish in the river below are dining on insects that skim along the surface, creating little ripples on the calm water.

@ Orange Splendor
Dante was hailed by Zerda, who had also just arrived on the scene. “What a great view, Dante!” said Zerda. “I could stay here for hours!”

The glorious colors of autumn overflow in profusion along the trail prompting a chorus of 'oohs' and 'ahs' among the travelers. We pause and stare in rapturous awe for a moment before proceeding.

@ Ginger Root
“Great to meet you again, Buttercup!” said Zerda. “Come and have some of this farm-grown organic food—it’s absolutely yummy!”
Ginger Root
Ginger root is a well-known natural remedy for some common ailments. If you are prone to stomach upset and indigestion, nibbling on a small piece of raw ginger or drinking ginger tea can help alleviate your symptoms. But it is most useful on the journey as it helps your body to recover from muscle soreness after over-exertion. It will definitely come in handy today!

@ Japanese Maple in Orange
"Wasn’t it worth coming all this way, Zerda," said Finn, "for this experience alone?" Zerda, admiring the scene they were now in, heartily agreed!

An important reminder when one is out on an adventure: remember to look up! There is so much beauty around us, we don't want to miss any of it, especially when it is something as wonderful as the sun's rays filtering through the orange leaves of this Japanese Maple tree.

Ophelia was hailed by Zerda, who had also just arrived on the scene. “What a great view, Ophelia!” said Zerda. “I could stay here for hours!”

See, glancing upward occasionally does have its benefits! As we continue along the trail we see a different variety of Japanese Maple, no less beautiful than the orange one. A treat to our eyes, this one is adorned in a fabulous crimson red.

@ Delightful Dahlia
Wuzzle and Zerda shook paws and then they both admired the magnificent floral display beside them.

The PnF gardener has done a fabulous job landscaping along the trail. Pots of flowers have been placed throughout to display an array of vivid autumn colors. This deep pink hued dahlia is delightful!

@ Marvelous Magenta Flower
“What’s this flower called?” Zerda said to Basil. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said Basil and hastily changed the subject.

@ Nectar Delight
"This is a glorious specimen, Mrs. Cuddlicious", observed Zerda. "What a shame that in a month or so all this colour will be gone!"
"You know the best way to get colour in your garden all year, Zerda?" said Mrs. Cuddlicious. "Buy a garden gnome!"

Be still and maybe it won't see you. Look over there on that red flower. It's a Micronesian Myzomela, and I almost didn't see it as it is somewhat camouflaged by the wispy red flowers it is sipping nectar from.

“My uncle grows these in his back garden,” observed Zerda.
“Wow! He must surely have green fingers!” replied Choose a name.

@ Basket of Pine Cones
Toby and Zerda counted out their silver moles and bought some of the harvest food. “That one wins first prize for me!” declared Toby.

According to the note attached to the basket, each of us is supposed to take a pine cone and plant the seeds in the designated area ahead. A park ranger will give us instructions when we get there. A pine forest covered in fresh snowfall is one of the most beautiful sights to see in winter. I'm happy to help add to that beauty!

@ Magnificent Maple
While Zerda paused to enjoy the view, Ivory started scrabbling in her rucksack for her portable, folding camping chair. “What are you doing with that, Ivory?” asked Zerda. “We’ll need to get going in a minute or we’ll be left behind!”

@ Autumn Rose Bouquet
Mekmek bent down to sniff the flower in front of him but recoiled hastily. “What’s up, Mekmek?” asked Zerda.
“There’s a huge bumblebee on it!” said Mekmek.

The unmistakable fragrance of roses captures my attention as I leave the wooded area. I look down to see a beautiful arrangement of autumn-hued roses in a white ceramic pot.

@ Perfect Spot for a Campsite
Zerda and Faεяydaε shook paws, said “How do you do?” and posed for a souvenir photo. “Why am I always on the left?” grumbled Zerda. “Let’s change sides.”
“No,” said Faεяydaε. “This is my best side.”

Off in the distance across the river I see the perfect spot to pitch my tent and camp for the night.

@ Juicy Blackberries
Zerda was excited by seeing all the different harvest produce. “I’m going to apply for an allotment and start growing my own food!” he announced to Blaze, when they met and shook paws.

@ Shiny Redcurrant Berries
“Hey, Talos!” called out Zerda. “Come and have some of this—it’s delicious!”
Talos was glad to relax and enjoy the food Zerda shared with him.

Wild redcurrants can be found all over the countryside. They look temptingly sweet to eat, but these shiny red berries are usually made into redcurrant jelly because of their tartness.

"Well," said Zerda, "you go through a checklist. Like what sort of leaves does it have, how are they arranged on the stem, do they have stalks, what's its habitat; that kind of thing. I'll lend you a book when we get home."

Growing on the side of the bridge is a mass of deep red and purple leafy vines. Deep blue berries hang in bunches just waiting to be eaten.

@ Teasels and Carnations
"I wish I knew more about horticulture, Ivory" said Zerda. "Sometimes I can't tell if something's a plant or a weed!"
"Oh, there's a sure-fire way of telling the difference, Zerda! Pull on it—if it comes out of the ground easily, it's a really valuable plant.”
Teasels and Carnations
Teasel weeds are a very common roadside plant. They look beautiful for being a weed, don't they? They are a favorite among crafters as they can be dried and painted any color. These lovely bi-color pink carnations pair perfectly with the purple painted teasels.
