@ PnF Meeting House
Cyril and lily are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Autumn in Red
Fall foliage in striking hues of red and orange will be seen all around on this tour along the riverbank. Your pet can collect pine cones, sample wild berries and currants, view beautiful plants in purple and red, and perhaps spot some exotic birdlife! Everypet will enjoy lingering on the bridge to view the peaceful scene as the sun goes down turning the river pink as it does so ...
PnF Meeting House
Before we begin the journey we need to check-in here to pick up a trail map and some travel snacks. Be sure to sign the register with how many are in your travel party and how long you plan to be on the trail. Don't forget to take a potty break before you head out!

Episode 2/25

@ Sleepy River Sunrise
Cyril and Paradiddle agreed that the variety of scenery on their Autumn Experience trip was the best ever! They exchanged opinions on which their favourite scene had been so far, and which was the most delicious harvest food they had eaten in their travels!

The sun is just beginning to illuminate the sky, casting a warm glow on the sleepy river and the sleepy pets in the village. We begin our journey early in the cool of the day as the PnF weatherpet has predicted an unusually warm autumn day ahead.

@ Sunrise Silhouette
Cyril opened his rucksack to change his hat. PI PI could see Cyril had a baseball cap, a sombrero, a beret, a straw boater, a cricket cap, a sou'wester, a large, floppy sunhat and a pith helmet!
“Did you bring a mortarboard too?” PI PI asked Cyril.

As the sun continues to rise and the chill of the morning gives way, some of the hikers begin to shed their warm jackets and stuff them in their packs. A lone plant is dramatically silhouetted in the sun's golden light.

@ Autumn Stillness
“Shall we take a selfie?” Cyril asked Luckyice as they drank in the peaceful scene and admired each other’s purchases of harvest produce.

As we behold the beauty of the golden leaves in the nearby trees, some clouds have rolled in, obscuring the sun for a bit. Some small fish in the river below are dining on insects that skim along the surface, creating little ripples on the calm water.

@ Orange Splendor
"Put your camera down for a minute, Cyril," said Morenth, "and just drink in that view!"

The glorious colors of autumn overflow in profusion along the trail prompting a chorus of 'oohs' and 'ahs' among the travelers. We pause and stare in rapturous awe for a moment before proceeding.

@ Ginger Root
Cyril and Fergus shook paws before sitting down to enjoy an autumnal harvest snack. “There’s nothing like farm-fresh food, is there, Cyril?” said Fergus.
Ginger Root
Ginger root is a well-known natural remedy for some common ailments. If you are prone to stomach upset and indigestion, nibbling on a small piece of raw ginger or drinking ginger tea can help alleviate your symptoms. But it is most useful on the journey as it helps your body to recover from muscle soreness after over-exertion. It will definitely come in handy today!

@ Japanese Maple in Orange
Cyril and Mimi shook paws, then looked around in awe, wishing they hadn’t already eaten their lunch! This was the most perfect place for a picnic!

An important reminder when one is out on an adventure: remember to look up! There is so much beauty around us, we don't want to miss any of it, especially when it is something as wonderful as the sun's rays filtering through the orange leaves of this Japanese Maple tree.

“Let’s pose with one of us at each side and I’ll set the self-timer to take a shot,” said Cyril to Skye. “It’ll be a wonderful souvenir of our time here!”

See, glancing upward occasionally does have its benefits! As we continue along the trail we see a different variety of Japanese Maple, no less beautiful than the orange one. A treat to our eyes, this one is adorned in a fabulous crimson red.

@ Delightful Dahlia
"How on earth do you identify what this is from the thousands of things it could be?" asked unie.
"Well," said Cyril, "you go through a checklist. Like what sort of leaves does it have, how are they arranged on the stem, do they have stalks, what's its habitat; that kind of thing. I'll lend you a book when we get home."

The PnF gardener has done a fabulous job landscaping along the trail. Pots of flowers have been placed throughout to display an array of vivid autumn colors. This deep pink hued dahlia is delightful!

@ Marvelous Magenta Flower
"I wish I knew more about horticulture, Avalanche" said Cyril. "Sometimes I can't tell if something's a plant or a weed!"
"Oh, there's a sure-fire way of telling the difference, Cyril! Pull on it—if it comes out of the ground easily, it's a really valuable plant.”

Be still and maybe it won't see you. Look over there on that red flower. It's a Micronesian Myzomela, and I almost didn't see it as it is somewhat camouflaged by the wispy red flowers it is sipping nectar from.

“What’s this flower called?” Cyril said to Grace. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said Grace and hastily changed the subject.

@ Basket of Pine Cones
Inspired by the sunny day, Webbly said, “Wouldn't it be fun to work on the harvest?”
Cyril took a more pragmatic view. “You’d have to be up before dawn every day and work for 12 hours practically non-stop!”
Webbly hastily revised his romantic harvest vision.

According to the note attached to the basket, each of us is supposed to take a pine cone and plant the seeds in the designated area ahead. A park ranger will give us instructions when we get there. A pine forest covered in fresh snowfall is one of the most beautiful sights to see in winter. I'm happy to help add to that beauty!

@ Magnificent Maple
Cyril and Eric shook paws, said “How do you do?” and posed for a souvenir photo. “Why am I always on the left?” grumbled Cyril. “Let’s change sides.”
“No,” said Eric. “This is my best side.”

@ Autumn Rose Bouquet
"This is a glorious specimen, Inukshuk", observed Cyril. "What a shame that in a month or so all this colour will be gone!"
"You know the best way to get colour in your garden all year, Cyril?" said Inukshuk. "Buy a garden gnome!"

@ Perfect Spot for a Campsite
“What have you got in your tote bag, Sweetie?” asked Cyril. “It looks very full!”
“I’ve come prepared for anything the weather can throw at us, Cyril,” responded Sweetie. “There’s deck shoes, snowshoes, tennis shoes, flip-flops, flippers, walking boots, Wellington boots—you name them, I’ve got them!”

@ Shiny Redcurrant Berries
Listy and Cyril counted out their silver moles and bought some of the harvest food. “That one wins first prize for me!” declared Listy.

Wild redcurrants can be found all over the countryside. They look temptingly sweet to eat, but these shiny red berries are usually made into redcurrant jelly because of their tartness.

Growing on the side of the bridge is a mass of deep red and purple leafy vines. Deep blue berries hang in bunches just waiting to be eaten.

“I’m going to have to spend a lot of time when we get back looking up what all these flowers are!” said Cyril to Calvin.

@ Teasels and Carnations
“My uncle grows these in his back garden,” observed Cyril.
“Wow! He must surely have green fingers!” replied Midnite.
Teasels and Carnations
Teasel weeds are a very common roadside plant. They look beautiful for being a weed, don't they? They are a favorite among crafters as they can be dried and painted any color. These lovely bi-color pink carnations pair perfectly with the purple painted teasels.
