MORSE and LILJE have been given a free map to help them enjoy their Winter Tour! Before unfolding it, they read the cover:
Boats & Bergs
On the only island part of the tour, the pets are picked up at the landing stage by a horse-drawn sleigh and are driven through snowy pines to board their awaiting boat which will take them on the main part of the day's adventure. They will see mountains, icebergs, fun little sandy or rocky coves, swathes of trees lining the coast, snowy island villages and will be enthralled towards the end by the tale of the spooky Troll Lake ... those of a nervous disposition will find exploring the night's accommodation will lift their spirits however! It is a beautiful house with a log fire to warm their paws by while they wind down for the night with mugs of hot chocolate.

@ Sunrise Wood
"Remember when Foxy leant too far over the bridge in Meadowlands that time, and fell in the pond with a huge splash, Donovan?" asked MORSE. "My stomach muscles ached for days, I laughed so much!"

Picture the quiet of this wood as you travel through it, the sleigh following previous tracks, the only sounds in the stillness being the muffled clop of the horses' hooves, the jingle of the harness and the swish of the runners through the snow.

"Wasn’t it worth coming all this way, MORSE," said Jake, "for this experience alone?"

The sheer perfection of these shards of ice under magnification show the beauty of Mother Nature's design! Each shard stands like an ornate little spear or pinnacle, yet is made of nothing but frozen water!

“So what do you reckon, MORSE, one of these red houses or one of these brown houses?” asked Bolly.
"Oh, you can't beat a solid little grey stone house, Bolly!"

The start of a new winter day, with the sun rising and reflecting off the snow crystals which clad the ground, making them glitter in the early morning. Later on, perhaps the snow on the benches will have melted and be occupied by pets taking a rest from their winter snow activities.

@ Lonesome Road
"It's great to have another boat trip, isn't it, MORSE?" said HOot, studying the route map.
“Let's hope Foxy doesn't get seasick like he did at Crocodile Creek!" replied MORSE. "Hang on, where are those Kwells?"

This road stretches for mile after endless mile but with that breath-taking mountain view to admire, the time will fly past!

"This is fabulous, Mittens," enthused MORSE. "I'll have this photo printed and framed and display it next to my ceramic puffin that I got in the little gift shop near Snow Beach and the model lighthouse from Transcia!"
"You'll have a fine collection of mementos, MORSE!" said Mittens.

This sturdy bateau will take the icy waters in her stride and all a pet has to do is find the best vantage point for admiring the scenes all around! Oh, and keep out of the captain's way, of course!

“Let's hope Foxy doesn't get as seasick as he did that time on Crocodile Creek, MORSE!” said Buzzz.
"Well, he's in good company, Buzzz," replied MORSE. "Admiral Nelson was a chronic sufferer, as well as Horatio Hornblower."
"Hornblower was fictional, MORSE!" Buzzz pointed out.
"Well—whatever," responded MORSE. "It took time for him to get his sea legs on every trip."

Looming up ahead out of the water are the stern, forbidding, desolate peaks shrouded in mist that clearly show the harsh landscape in wintertime.

MORSE opened his rucksack to find his hat. Violet Flame could see MORSE had a beret, a balaclava, a cricket cap, a Tam o' Shanter, a woolly bobble hat, a beanie, a deerstalker hat and a Peruvian chullo!
“Did you bring a Stetson too?” Violet Flame asked MORSE.

As the sun sets and casts its lingering rays on the sea, there can be no better place for entering a meditative state than beside Marram View, whatever the season.

MORSE was very happy to meet Garfield here! They shook paws and both swapped tales of their experiences of their travels so far!

The autumnal hues of trees on these crags turn slowly to winter foliage and the snowy peaks above them brood down over them in the absolute stillness of water.

@ Idylllic Waterway Retreat
“A picture of this would look lovely printed on Christmas cards, wouldn't it, MORSE?” Tigger said.
“It certainly would, Tigger!" said MORSE.

What a blissfully idyllic place this would be to live! Imagine steering your boat from place to place and berthing at a landing stage rather than a driveway! With its backdrop of white-topped mountains, a foreground of peaceful waterway, and distinctive houses plus a church with a high steeple, this is certainly a lovely place.

@ Creagan Cove
“Wouldn't it be lovely to live in a lighthouse? So romantic!" mused MORSE, lying back on a boat deckchair in the indoor lounge.
"Well, I don't know," said midnught. "It's not all about drinking coffee and gazing at the sea. You have run up and down stairs, operate the light and the foghorn, and there may be no running water or electricity apart from a generator."
midnught considered this. "Mine would be a luxurious, converted, non-operational lighthouse, then."
Creagan Cove
'Ware rocks, ahoy! This cove, fringed with prominent boulders, is perfect for dipping your paws, wings or flippers into when the tide is out. When the tide is full, Rocky Cove offers up brilliant snorkelling opportunities, if the sea is calm enough.

Brrrr! A lot of pets would baulk at taking a dip in this lake, with patches of ice floating on top! But wrap up warm, and it's the perfect spot for tarrying a while, as the ripples from the birds' feeding activities spread outwards and the light starting to fade a little from the sky.

There's plenty of space on deck in the open air for those pets willing to brave the chill wind! Otherwise there are plenty of seats in the covered lounge area below. But make sure you emerge in time to wave to the welcoming party on terra firma!

The snow-clad mountains are perfectly mirrored in the still, calm grey waters of the lake. This wintry lake has the clear transparency of quartz and is a place to meditate.

Julia was distracted by the sounds of loud rustling as MORSE unfolded a very large tourist map, in the course of which he succeeded in knocking Julia’s hat off. “Put that away, do!” snapped Julia. “We’re about to pose beside this amazing scene—the picture will be of your map if you don’t fold it up PDQ!”

We note the Norwegian influence on this spooky body of water—Troll Lake! Who knows what legends have been passed down over the centuries ... watch out if you dip your paws or flippers in there, especially after sunset and the lake is shrouded with mist!

“It would be great fun to camp in the snow overnight, wouldn't it, Firefly?” said MORSE."In the morning you'd fill your kettle with snow and boil it suspended from a tripod of sticks, like they do in books."
Firefly shivered. “What books, MORSE? Those written by Baden-Powell? I think I'd rather have my creature comforts indoors, thank you."

A scene of chocolate box prettiness! Night-time in an Alpine village, under a clear starry night with snow thickly coating the roofs of chalets and pine trees with snowy peaks in the distance. It's time to hunker down by the wood burning stove with hot drinks and raclette.

Julius was studying his map for the current tour. "Why don't we have a word like hygge in English, MORSE?"
“Well, I don't know, Julius. I guess if we don't have a word for something, we borrow it from another language. There's lots of examples, I reckon."

“Ooh, it's just starting to get a bit cold, MORSE!” said Sabrina. “Can you hold my map while I dig out my gloves?"
MORSE good-naturedly took charge of Sabrina's possessions while she emptied her rucksack of a pack of sandwiches, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of toffees, a paperback novel, a bottle of mineral water, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old train tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a door key, some shopping receipts, a screwdriver, a bottle of multivitamins, a lottery ticket and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and tomato ketchup before locating the gloves right at the bottom. These she donned and then MORSE helped her put everything back in her rucksack.

Knit and Natter
There can be no more cosy occupation than sitting by the fire with just the click of knitting needles and the resettling of the logs as they burn as an accompaniment. Which lucky pets will end up snug and cosy in this knitwear?

“You know what Ratty said in Wind in the Willows, MORSE?” said Katrice.
"No, what was that?"
"He said, 'there is nothing—absolutely nothing—half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats'," said Katrice. "He's right!"

Toothless dived into his rucksack and scrabbled about in it, searching. “There's no mention in Jingle Bells how jolly cold an open sleigh is, MORSE!” he said. “I haven't warmed up since—I'm going to put some extra layers on!”
Toothless emerged clutching a scarf and a woolly hat.
"But just breathe in that crisp air!" said MORSE. “You can feel it doing you good.”

Gracious Living
An calm, elegant living room with orderly design that enjoys a relaxing view over the garden outside. Plenty of light is admitted by the large window panes but as dusk falls, the lamps provide extra cosiness.

"It's turned a bit cold, MORSE, I'm going to put my beanie hat on," said Shadow.

MORSE is tired out and ready to go home when PluttiPott comes along. "Wow! You find a special prize!" says PluttiPott. MORSE turns round and found it was just behind them!

Enticing Mug of Hot Chocolate
Mmmm! Just the thing to sip before retiring for the night, a mug of milky hot chocolate. To help wind down, it helps to read a chapter of a good book (but nothing too exciting!).
