Pearl opened her rucksack to change her hat. Halim could see Pearl had a large, floppy sunhat, a balaclava, a rain hat, a woolly bobble hat, a beanie, a deerstalker hat and a swimming cap! “Did you bring a fez too?” Halim asked Pearl.

Pearl and Marcus had shaken paws and were now introducing themselves to the next critter who had come to meet them on this leg of the quest, who was eager to make friends and to show off a carefully tidied natural habitat!

Snowy white with a splash of orange for a beak and legs these geese can truly sneak up on you on a winter day. At least they do not have quite the same reputation as their Canadian counterparts *wink wink*

“You never know what sort of critter to expect next, do you, Puddle Rumchuckle?" whispered Pearl. “You know, small, cute and furry or really quite, um, large, with—er—very sharp teeth.” Puddle Rumchuckle reassured Pearl that all the critters were looking forward to meeting them, regardless of size, furriness, cuteness and/or type of teeth.

One of the friendliest birds of the Canadian winter. Many children have memories of standing outside with arms extended and feed in hand awaiting a bird to land and feed.

@ Polar Bear Ridge

The kings of the north reside here. While they appear large and overbearing they truly can be friendly and will invite you in for halibut.

Pearl was excited to meet up again with Icicle. They both took a moment to admire the amazing scene around them.

The penguins of the northern hemisphere! Ok, not quite but adorable nonetheless. These critters can even be found roaming through town when they are not on the hillsides.

You never know what you will experience on the coast. Here we have the brilliant purple and pink sunset speckled by soaring seabirds in the sky. Looks like tomorrow should be a good day.

While Pearl paused to drink in the view, Kacey started scrabbling in her rucksack for her portable, foldable camping chair. “What are you doing with that, Kacey?” asked Pearl. “We’ll need to get going in a minute or we’ll be left behind!”

Grouped together you never know what sort of mischief these birds will get into. Are they preparing to come into town? Maybe they are planning to fly back to sea. One never knows.

“What an amazing creature!” exclaimed Pearl. Princess agreed with Pearl. “I’m seeing so many animals, birds and insects that I’ve never seen before!”

Plug your nose! Things are about to get a little smelly around here. Where there are this many penguins there is sure to be a lot of guano! But with such cuties running around it is easy to ignore.

Pearl and Saphira agreed that the variety of environments on their expedition was the best ever! Pearl and Saphira exchanged opinions on which their favourite terrain had been so far, and which was the most interesting creature they had met in their travels!

This lil fella appears grumpy as he is often mistaken for a seal. He really would like to wear a sign saying I am not a seal but has thus far resisted. So please be kind when entering the beach here and do not upset the natives. They are quite friendly.

Mollie was distracted by the sounds of loud rustling as Pearl unfolded a very large tourist map, in the course of which she succeeded in knocking Mollie’s hat off. “Put that away, do!” snapped Mollie. “We’re about to pose with this amazing creature—the picture will be of your map if you don’t fold it up pronto!”

The ancient guardian of this rock will let you pass if you provide him with his favourite treat. Apparently he is really partial to strawberries and Macintosh apples.

“I’ve written a postcard to my aunty to tell her about our amazing safari!” said Pearl. “She’ll wish she was here! Where’s the nearest postbox?” Freddie Feelgood shielded his eyes and rotated 360°, elaborately scanning the horizon. “I don’t think they’ve thought to provide a postbox here, Pearl. How remiss of them!” Seeing Pearl’s ears beginning to droop, Freddie Feelgood added, “Don’t worry, you can post your card after this leg of the safari.”

Hold onto your rocks! These penguins are notorious rock thieves. They sneak up on one another’s nests and steal pebbles to better their own nest. It appears these two penguins may be conspiring together. So hold onto your goods.

Both Slushie and Pearl love the scenery at the next stop, and they both enjoy introducing themselves to their new friend, who has been waiting to meet them!

It is ok. You can breathe. We just recommend staying in the middle of our shark cage here while we are at depth. Going close to the edge near the bars may be a little risky and ill advised. But isn’t that shark ever so graceful swimming around and stalking us?

Swimming and lazing around in the tropical waters one may be lucky to catch sight of these beauties floating by. Amidst the corals their colours almost glow as if illuminated by black light. Certainly a rare treat for anyone to see.

Snap on your scuba gear and go for a swim among these gentle giants. They are more likely that other whales to breech so do take care when in the water. If you aren’t so brave perhaps a Zodiac tour is more your speed.

Pearl has had a wonderful day, and has met lots of animals for the very first time, but now it is time for Pearl to go back to your page and relax.

Your pet will need to wrap up warmly and perhaps don snowshoes for this part of the quest! The journey starts in beautiful snowy scenes where some quite rare animals and birds are waiting to welcome your pet to their wintry world. The quest continues to cliffs, then rocky and sandy seashores and culminates in your pet sailing on the sea to view the watery world and its inhabitants! The octopus has promised to put in an appearance, and the shark has been practising his fiercest, most glary expression, but that’s to conceal his heart of gold and cuddly disposition! Bon voyage!
