An easy answer is that the growing of corn was so much part of the lives of the ordinary people in England, Europe and America that the countryside was covered in corn so the scenes were hard to avoid for the en plein air artists.

Hearty finally makes it back to the landing stage, where Trish is also about to embark and go home. What an adventure it has been! Hearty pockets a map of Exina as a momento. The guidebook says:
