This story is for Liron, Linda and Jenny, who so very kindly gifted me toucans (which make me nostalgic for the hornbills that pulled my hair, tried to steal my pen and chased my dog that used to come to work with me every day at Nusa Island Retreat, in the New Guinea Islands). So my art and story are about Nusa Island Retreat:
5 minutes from Kavieng by banana boat, Nusa Island Retreat has a wonderful history, that goes something like...once upon a time, two young surfers chasing waves pitched their tents on Nusa Island, fell in love with the place, and in 1997 started Nusa Island Retreat, with tents on the beach for accommodation and an esky for a bar, while progressively building and expanding the bungalows, kitchen, restaurant and bar that grace Nusa's shoreline today...
