One of the true delights of fair weather is watching fluffy white cumulus cloud shapes, etched by an invisible artist on a vast canvas of blue sky. Cloud watching is best done with a good friend, lying on your backs or sitting comfortably. You see an elephant; your friend sees an angel. You both say “Train” at the same time and have a good laugh. Your friend spots an ice cream cone, and you see a hamburger. It must be time for lunch. Who knew that so many joyous hours could be spent just watching cumulus clouds on a sunny day?

Can you see the forest for the trees? One tree? Two trees? Three trees? Four or more? Really what is a forest?

The New Testament records different aspects of the crucifixion and resurrection in all four gospels. But is there any proof that something so unusual really happened? Can we trust the Bible?

Skeptics sometimes suggest that the story of Jesus' resurrection is a legend, embellished over time. But how can it be legend when there are manuscripts which have been dated AD 70, just a few decades from the actual events? This is proof of authenticity because there were plenty of people still alive that could have contested the events as recorded. No ancient first century documents exist that contest anything written in those manuscripts. Additionally, there are more than 5,000 ancient New Testament Greek manuscripts that have been cataloged and another 19,000 copies in other languages. No other literary work comes close to that number. The closest is Homer's "Iliad" which has over 600 manuscripts that were penned 500 years after the original. Many other ancient documents have fewer than 50 copies and are over a century removed from the original. The more texts that are available, the more reliable the writings, because they can be cross-checked for accuracy. If the New Testament is regarded as unreliable, then so must all the other ancient writings, as there are far fewer of them in existence.

Other theories proposed by skeptics are that Jesus didn't really die or that His disciples stole the body after it was placed in the tomb and made up the story about His resurrection to keep Christianity alive. But that doesn't explain the account that the guards, obviously not followers of Jesus, confirmed he had died and took him down from the cross and allowed the women to prepare his body for burial; or that many of the followers of Jesus eventually gave up their own lives when presented with the opportunity to deny Jesus or die. Why would they do that for a lie they had supposedly made up?

It's not simply a matter of faith. There is much evidence that the Bible is authentic and reliable.

What a hot, muggy day! After that bike ride home from work, your clothes are sticking to you. Yech! Mix yourself an ice-cold lemon julep, and step out your back door to your private retreat. Nobody can see you as you jump into the deep end of the pool, clothes and all. The cool water splashing on your face feels so good. Reach for your favourite floatie, sip your cool drink, and relax at the end of a stressful day.

There is no place more diverse on this planet than its tropical rainforests. More than half of the world's species of plants and animals can be found here near the equator, and it has been estimated that there may be millions more waiting to be discovered. In addition, many natural medicines are made from its indigenous plants. Tropical rainforests truly are the "jewels of the Earth."

The warm, wet weather is a constant, producing high amounts of rainfall with no dry season. There are four layers typically found in tropical rainforests, each with different plants and animals. The emergent layer contains a small number of very large trees which withstand hot temperatures and high winds. Eagles, bats, butterflies and some species of monkeys live in this layer. The canopy layer, a nearly continuous cover of treetops, contains the densest areas of bio diversity. The same types of animals live here as in the emergent layer, but in greater quantities and varieties. Also, one fourth of all known insect species and one half of all plant species live in the canopy. The understory layer is where birds, lizards, snakes and large cats live. The plant leaves are often quite large and there are many seedlings that will eventually become part of the canopy. This part of the rainforest only receives about 5% exposure to the sunlight. The forest floor is nearly devoid of vegetation due to the low light available. Any decaying plant or animal matter disappears quickly due to the warm, humid conditions and the existence of fungi which helps in the process.

This glowing green goo is perfect for all your slimy scenes. We found this stuff in abundance at the haunted house at the end of the lane. The ghosts in residence cooked this stuff up special using radioactive uranium, plutonium, and the slobber of rabid dogs. The brave souls who collected it tangled with the nastiest of spirits and risked their very lives in order to bring it to you for your enjoyment. So use it with gratitude and definitely be careful, as it is very dangerous!
