scaredy cat looks at the lambs leaping about like fools and doesn't understand their gaiety. why are they so happy leaping back and forth over that fence? and look at that crazy chocolate cow!! she's gone bonkers and is leaping over the moon!! what has gotten into these pets? have they gone nuts?
kaida laughs at scaredy cat and tells her that this year is a leap year and animals that love to leap are rejoicing in the upcoming leap day. "leap year"? "leap day"? scaredy cat doesn't get it. kaida continues and explains that a leap year is any year with 366 days instead of the usual 365 days. Therefore, leap day in 2016 will fall on Monday, February 29th. scaredy cat inquires about the need for the extra day. kaida goes on and tells her friend that it was the ancient Egyptians who first figured out that the solar year and the man-made calendar year didn't always match up. scaredy cat still doesn't get it and decides to just give up as he continues to watch those silly lambs leaping about.

this week we get to celebrate a day that only happens once every 4 years - leap day!! what will your pets be doing on this occasion? will they leap about like the little lambs shown here with scaredy cat? will they try out a pogo stick to leap to great heights? maybe eat some jumping jelly beans? they might even get the courage to get onto a trampoline where they can jump and leap as they try to reach the stars!! have fun on this fun day!!
