Scaredy Cat and Bob have taken a trip to the library to check out some books that a classmate told them about. They're looking for something new to read as they're both a little bored with what they have at home. With their lists in their book bags, they begin their search. Imagine the surprise on their faces when they begin looking at what these books are about. Apparently the titles do not come close to matching what the actual storyline is about. "Roses Are Red"...Bob quickly discovers that this is NOT about how to grow the perfect red rose. And "Violets Are Blue" isn't discussing how to grow beautiful violets! They continue perusing the shelves and are in shock. There seems to be a lot of titles that do not come close to matching what they thought the story was about. The author that they're looking at really enjoys using parts of childrens' nursery rhymes as titles for his books. But these are far from being nursery rhymes! Bob realizes that the expression, "Never judge a book by its cover" is as true as true can be. Scaredy Cat isn't pleased. He feels he's been tricked. He wants to find the books that are cheery and bright and filled with fun and frolicking, not ones that trick you into thinking they are easy reads by giving you a cute title. Maybe he should just go home and get out some coloring books. There's no trickery there.

Never judge a book by its cover. That phrase can cover a multitude of things. This week we'll be exploring how you can look at something and have one idea about it but then learn what you see isn't always what you get. See a book titled "Along Came a Spider" and you'll find out there's nothing mentioned about Little Miss Muffett. You might spot a woman who is tiny and petite, yet she can lift things that weigh twice her own weight. Some food items look far from appealing, yet when you take that first bite, you wonder why you haven't tried this before. Is there a house in your neighborhood that seems small and dreary? I bet when you step inside, you'll find that it's bright, clean and you could get lost trying to find your way through the maze of rooms and hallways. You might know someone who stands 7'5" tall and weighs about 300 lbs, has a long bushy beard and has a voice so deep it sounds like a foghorn. But you learn that this behemoth of a man is actually a gentle teddy bear who is crazy in love with kittens. Share how you can mistakenly judge something or someone by the outward appearance, yet not be even close to those thoughts!!
