Picnics
Scaredy Cat Scaredy Cat was waiting for Bob on this fine summer day and JJ was as ready as ever for another adventure outside. When Bob arrived, he noticed that Scaredy Cat had with him a basket full of yummy goodies. "Are we going somewhere specific today?" he asked. "Well, you may not know it, but July is National Picnic Month and what better way to appreciate it than we go on a picnic ourselves!" exclaimed Scaredy Cat. "Yippee! I love picnics! What are we waiting for? Let's go. By the way, where are we setting up our picnic this time? Bob asked. "The best thing about picnics is that they can be anywhere we like and with great company, it will definitely be fun. For today, how about we go by the pond near the park? JJ will definitely enjoy chasing the ducks there. And as long as we're going there, why don’t we make it our art challenge this week at the community centre? It'll be great to see everyone's picnic art" Scaredy Cat said.
The American Bakers' Association founded National Picnic Month in 1952. July is an excellent time to celebrate National Picnic Month. The fresh air stirs the appetite, and garden vegetables and fruits make outdoor eating easier. Pack your basket and join us as we explore quick picnic facts and encourage you to go on a picnic today!
The word “picnic” is derived from the French word “pique-nique.” Picnics hearken back to mid-18th-century al fresco French dining. A bottle of wine, a loaf of bread, some cheese and fruit made for an instant meal under the sky.
Whether we pack meals for tailgating at sporting events, an afternoon get-away or a weekend of camping, picnics provide an excellent way to enjoy the company of friends and family away from home. It's important to keep the meals simple and focus on the company. Sandwiches, finger foods, and beverages may seem plain, but it's more about spending time with each other and being in nature. When we pack them right, picnics make life simple. The clean-up is usually easy thanks to all the finger foods. That way we get to spend more time visiting with friends and family while enjoying the sunshine. Pack up the picnic basket and head out to your favorite park. Bring juice, wine, fruit, cheese, bread, and some smoked meat and you're all set.
Share with us your favorite picnic spots an also what kind of activities you're doing during your picnic time.
