Scaredy Cat and Bob are attending another crafting class at the rec center. The new theme is "Purple Heart Day". The instructor is helping the attendees find creative ways to make things with purple hearts. While Scaredy Cat paints an intricate design of purple hearts on a black canvas, the instructor takes a deep breath when she notices Bob making a mess on the floor as he cuts a purple heart out of construction paper. Purple Heart Day, on August 7th, commemorates the creation of the oldest American military decoration for military merit. The Purple Heart honors the men and women who are of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. It was originally created by George Washington, America's first President. The theme for this week is to have purple hearts in your art - but it's not necessarily to honor this unofficial holiday, but to feature purple hearts. Of course, this means that it is completely up to your interpretation and imagination how you'll create your entries this week. Make your own purple hearts out of different shapes and images. Use one to make a purple heart-shaped "hooman" or pet. Decorate a room in purple hearts! Wear a necklace or blouse with purple hearts.
