Gong hei fat choy!! It's the start of the Lunar New Year and this year, it's the year of the tiger. Go ahead - admit that as you read this, the song "Eye of the Tiger" popped into your head as it did mine!! Today marks the beginning of the Lunar calendar amongst many Asian groups across the globe. Each year is a celebration of one of 12 different animals - from horses to rabbits - and even dragons and pigs!! Traditionally, there are festivities marking the first day of the new year through the fifteenth day. There are traditional practices such as exchanging gifts to lighting fireworks to passing out red envelopes. There are traditional foods and music. There is so much you can learn on the internet about the many festivities and traditions surrounding such a colorful celebration!! This week - let's celebrate the Lunar New Year!! While it's technically "The Year of the Tiger", one might be born under the Chinese sign of the rat, the goat or even the dragon! What animal do you associate with from the Chinese Lunar calendar?
