Pierogi are undoubtedly one of the crowning dishes of Polish cuisine. Ah, the memories of Old Warsaw! On crisp autumn mornings, the air would be thick with the scent of roasting coffee and freshly baked poppy seed bagels, wafting from the many family-owned bakeries and cafés that dotted the landscape. As a youngster sent on errands, I would weave through the bustling crowds, dodging horse-drawn carriages and hawkers selling their wares, until I reached the steps of our small, unassuming baker's shop. As I grew older, I began to pick up the craft from my father, who had learned the skills from his father before him! |
