I am a little turtle that loves autumn and you know what happens in the fall, that’s right, Halloween. The season is filled with so many delights, leaves to chase as they are scattered by the wind, and leaf piles to dive under. Tasty treats to find, like nuts and berries.

Then there is Halloween itself, that spooky time when you get to dress up and attend bonfires and go door to door hoping for some special sweets. Pumpkins are one of my favourite things about this time of year, so I wear a pumpkin on my shell. It makes everyone smile, and I love to spread happiness. I hope you can join me this year and I know a great pumpkin patch where you can get a pumpkin of your own.

I wanted to dress up as a Mummy for the Halloween festivities. It is a simple costume; all one needs is an abundance of white bandages—we tore up an old sheet we found, I hope no one was still using it–and you wind it around your body until you are left with just the eyes peeking out.

I had a friend help wind the strips around me because if you have tried to do this yourself, you will know it is almost impossible. You will become tangled up and have to hop out the door to seek help.

We wound and wound until I thought I would fall down.

The result of all this winding was a good-looking Mummy, but the last little strip would not stay tucked in and kept flopping in my eyes and bits of it are becoming a bit loose. Maybe this is fine it looks as if the Mummy is coming undone, which may be even scarier than a Mummy bound. What do you think?

No! What? Wait, who are you calling evil? Who ever heard of a hamster being evil. I admit I can get slightly cranky if I don’t get the seeds I like and something odd seems to happen when Halloween night draws close. I wonder if has anything to do with that run-in I had with the witch a few years ago.

Woof! Dressed as a scarecrow I make an interesting sight. Don’t you think? Now I must tell you, birds don’t usually care much for dogs, we love to run and play and some of that time is spent chasing birds, even the bears will chase a bothersome bird—always trying to steal a piece of fish. So, with or without the costume—though I have to say it is growing on me, except the hat, which squashes my ears down a bit—I will still be able to scare off any birds bothering your crops.

Wait! I hope this does not mean I am stuck in a field unable to move all day, because that won’t wash with me. You will need to build a real scarecrow.
