In 1743, John Francis Wade produced a copy of the now popular O Come, All Ye Faithful and it was brought to Britain in the late 18th century. It was translated into English. A picture that conjures up winter, with its bare trees, shorn of leaves, waiting patiently in the snow for the spring, when the cycle of life begins again.

A singular perfect ice crystal formed from water and cold air that grows as it falls gently to the earth.

If you and your pets took a walk today—through the snow and trees—would you expect to come across a gingerbread house? What would you do if you did? It would be magical; you would feel as though you had been transported into a story. Would you walk up to the door and knock? Would you be tempted to nibble a corner of a gingerbread wall? Or would you be thinking about the story of children lost in the woods and how they stumbled across a gingerbread house?

The leaves that once covered the branches of these trees left many weeks ago. Standing silent and still, the trees await their new covering. As snow falls and accumulates, the trees take on a new look; the forest glows with soft light.

The walk through the woods this morning revealed a slight dusting of snow. Soon it will be time for mittens and a toque. Soon it will be time to light the fire in the fireplace.

The sun is rising, and there are still many steps until the home is in sight. Following in the deep footprints of others makes the walk less of a chore. A moment's pause to gaze out over the landscape, feeling grateful for such beauty.

This small group of cabins in Kirkenes featuring large windows is often used by travelers who hope to get a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis while staying warm. Another fun attraction besides aurora viewing is the Kirkenes Snowhotel which is rebuilt from fresh snow every year. This small town is located in northeastern Norway, close to the borders of Finland and Russia.

What could be better than to come inside from shoveling the path and be greeted with a warm cup of cocoa and some delicious sweets? You sure have a thoughtful sweetie!

Empty park benches sit in winter stillness, awaiting passersby to sit upon them. No need to wait for warmer weather. Just brush off the snow and have a seat.

A fresh snowfall has left the forest looking frosty and magical. Time for every pet to go for a drive and admire the spectacular winter blanket covering the whole land. Just drive carefully!

In Europe, in the winter, many places are covered with snow and the sight of a robin with its bright red throat would add a welcome dash of colour and a reminder that even in winter there are creatures enjoying the season. [European robin]

Snow has blanketed this surface with frosted beauty. What lies beneath? You will have to wait until it melts to find out.

The frosty foggy trail beckons the hardy resident of the Yukon Territories. Dog-sledding and snowmobiling are not just popular winter tourist activities, they are a way of life for those pets hardy enough to call this frigid terrain home.

"That's one small step for pets, one giant leap for pet-kind."

Ribbons of pink streak through the pale hues of blue to create an awe-inspiring winter evening masterpiece.

Self sustaining and fully stocked, these long term pets live a quiet and restful life during the long winter months!

With the long, loud sound of the train's whistle, the train lurches forward with a jolt and a series of chugs increasing rapidly while steam pours over the top and down the sides of each passenger car! Our friends settle into their seats with wide smiles!

Today's trip starts with the pets being picked up by motor vehicles. They try to catch sight of signposts to give a clue to their destination! Arriving at the train station, they climb aboard the Winter Express steam engine for a tour through a winter wonderland! The train stops for them to stretch paws, flippers and wings exploring a path through a snowy forest and on the way back they encounter a little creature clad in red and white trying out his skis! Back on board the journey through winter vistas continues until sunset. The train puffs its way across a stunning viaduct and on into the mist, before pulling up at the station where it is just a short distance to that night's house. Here the pets can explore the spacious interior including the library and wind down from their enjoyable trip out with hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and cinnamon.

Today's trip is on a modern train with spacious seats and large windows to enjoy the passing winter scenery. The train's first stop by a frozen lake allows the pets the opportunity to stretch their legs with a little skating! Let's hope there are no frozen paws from this adventure! The trip then proceeds to skiing grounds with steep snowy slopes, cable cars, chair lifts and an Olympic ski jump! The pets can also turn their paws to snowboarding if they wish. The pets will meet a cute little critter also trying to ski. Back on board the train at the end of an action-packed day, the pets will have the thrill of seeing the Northern Lights as they travel home in the setting sun to that night's lodging. There they will enjoy a warming milky coffee and a bowl of hot soup by the wood-burning stove in the dining room, while admiring the snowy scene outside.

A cute little fellow greets the pets this morning to herald the arrival of the morning's transport. The pets will pass wintry landscapes and greet all kinds of wildlife. They have the opportunity to explore bridges, a forest, a river and a snowbound wooden cabin before heading home in the sunset to that night's lodging. While passing the lumber store, they meet two more appealing little creatures keeping out of the cold. The pets then go inside for welcome bowls of soup and wind up their day by creating hot drinks with special chosen garnishes.

On the only island part of the tour, the pets are picked up at the landing stage by a horse-drawn sleigh and are driven through snowy pines to board their awaiting boat which will take them on the main part of the day's adventure. They will see mountains, icebergs, fun little sandy or rocky coves, swathes of trees lining the coast, snowy island villages and will be enthralled towards the end by the tale of the spooky Troll Lake ... those of a nervous disposition will find exploring the night's accommodation will lift their spirits however! It is a beautiful house with a log fire to warm their paws by while they wind down for the night with mugs of hot chocolate.

Your pet is welcomed in the morning by the jingle of sleigh bells, and two trusty brown steeds provide the transport for today's trip. Your pet will need to wrap up warmly for the ride! Along the way to the day's main event, the pets view winter flora transformed and beautified by frost, and they pass snowbound chalets. Today's tour provides an exciting opportunity to go paragliding! What splendid views can be seen while soaring in thermal currents high above the ground! After a safe landing, the day winds to its peaceful close of hot drinks, a log fire and another super house to explore.

The pets are collected after breakfast by a friendly array of sled dogs eager to be off! They will have to hang on tight for a speedy journey through a wintry vista before arriving at the aerodrome, where the pets will board a light aircraft for the day's trip. There will be superb aerial views of snowy mountains far below, with Alpine villages and public gardens becoming clearer in detail as the plane descends on its flight path for landing. As sunset falls the plane will land within easy walking distance of the night's accommodation. Here the pets can gather on large, comfy sofas to swap stories of the day's experiences, recharge their energy with cups of cappuccino, then enjoy hot bowls of soup and bread, and perhaps relax with a book before bedtime.

AROOOOOO!!!!!!!! You hear the sound of a howl far in the distance…and then the sound of something that sounds like a howl but isn’t quite right. The scent of pine trees fills the air and a fresh coat of snow is on the ground. It’s the perfect weather for sled riding. Husky dog teams are often seen on these hills, pulling the sleds behind them. But today, a little husky puppy frolics in the snow, much more interested in playing than watching his elders pull a sled. He is too tiny to help but not too small to watch. He tilts his head to the right as he listens to the adults use their vocal cords. He tries to do the same and that is the sound you hear. The sky is overcast and more snow threatens to fall. Yet, you can’t help smile at the sound of a young puppy attempting to howl into the sky. You know that one day, that puppy will grow big and strong, and it will be he that you see pulling the big dog sleds.

All is still and quiet, and the light is beginning to fade, on this cold and lonely late afternoon. Winter has arrived. The landscape is blanketed in snow. The endless white is broken only by fir trees, which are soon to be some Pets’ Christmas trees… But where are the Pets? Could they really miss Christmas altogether, because they’ve snuggled down to sleep through the winter?

As dawn breaks on Bigfoot Mountain, the snow gives way to clear crisp air. No wind lifts the fallen snow, no bird is on the wing, and no soul stirs on the lonely desolate mountaintop. The trees in the valley watch on, knowing that the mountain will run with fresh streams, if springtime should ever come to this valley…

The water gently rustles under a thin sheet of ice covering the lake. Snow is thick on the mountains and rests gently on the lake. All is silent except for the trickling of water you hear in the distance. Not even the birds are chirping, as they are only just beginning to wake up from the winter freeze. The ground is free of white cotton snow, yet hard under your feet from the crisp temperature. It is always chilly here in the mountains, yet the animals are glad that spring is coming. The Yeti watches from high up on the mountain, wondering how much longer it will be until he can swim. He likes to swim almost as much as he likes to dance. But for now, he will be patient and sit silently enjoying the sound of the lake slowly coming back to life.

The yeti admires the blanket of white that is on the mountains. This is his favorite time of year, though he knows not all of his mountainous friends enjoy the bitter cold. He was made for this type of weather. It is the morning after a heavy snowfall and all is white in his world. Yeti approaches the frozen lake, excited that it is the dead of winter and the water is now so thick and solid, that it can support his weight. It is time for dance. The iced lake becomes his dance floor where he can glide smoothly and effortlessly around the frozen body of water. He dances with passion, with love, hoping beyond hopes that his true love is out there, somewhere, just waiting to be found. He twirls and glides along the ice feeling free and at peace, just like the peaceful world surrounding him.

Your pet will need to wrap up warmly and perhaps don snowshoes for this part of the quest! The journey starts in beautiful snowy scenes where some quite rare animals and birds are waiting to welcome your pet to their wintry world. The quest continues to cliffs, then rocky and sandy seashores and culminates in your pet sailing on the sea to view the watery world and its inhabitants! The octopus has promised to put in an appearance, and the shark has been practising his fiercest, most glary expression, but that’s to conceal his heart of gold and cuddly disposition! Bon voyage!

As nightfall closes in, and the lands below cool rapidly, majestic birds of pray hover silently over the Bigfoot Twilight Mountaintop. For they love catching the last updrafts of the day, before returning to their roosts in these lonely peaks, to tuck their young in for another long cold night…
